Oak Bay Bike Building
A project by Peter Schultze Construction
Standing at the corner of Fort Street and Foul Bay in Victoria, the Oak Bay Bike Building is a striking example of contemporary West Coast architecture. Completed in 2002/03, the project was recognized with a CARE Award for Best Commercial Building of the Year.
Designed by Franc D’Ambrosio of D’Ambrosio Architecture + Urbanism and built by Peter Schultze Construction Ltd., this award-winning commercial space seamlessly blends modern design with high-quality craftsmanship. Franc D’Ambrosio’s vision is brought to life through the use of Rheinzinc panels along the midsection and roofline, paired with heavy glulam beams and concrete, creating a bold yet refined aesthetic. A unique design element—glass block beneath the display shelving—adds a sense of levitation, further enhancing the building’s distinctive character. Despite its modernity, the structure integrates beautifully into the neighborhood.
